You Think You Know Someone: Fun Facts About Sun Country Staff!
Do you remember the days when you saw your teacher/coach/principal in the grocery store, at the mall, or having a meal? Do you remember the thoughts that ran through your brain? It was almost always akin to seeing a gator in a swimming pool. “What is he/she doing here?”… “He/she EATS?”… “Doesn’t he/she LIVE at school?”
Many of us believed that those adults we saw in the classroom, in the gym or on the playing field had no life other than the one we were a part of. They may have LOOKED like Mom/Dad/Aunt/Uncle/Grandma/Grandpa, but they were different. They weren’t really human. Surely they didn’t have families of their own. They most certainly didn’t run errands. And they definitely didn’t do anything other than coach/teach/call your parents when you were naughty.
The same thing can be said for Sun Country kids!! When walking through Publix or Target…when attending a Gator sporting event… when walking out of the same movie theater, the reactions of “our kids” are priceless! Some squeal. Some giggle. Some stare quizzically. And some run straight to you. Inevitably, after they are no longer speechless, they ask… “What are YOU doing here?”. It’s as if you are invading a club… an EXCLUSIVE club where only REAL adults are allowed.
Often, kids forget that we were once kids too! They forget (or choose not to believe) that their Sun Country coaches/instructors like to eat out just as they do. They forget (or choose not to believe) that we like to shop for new clothes and shoes just as they do. They forget (or choose not to believe) that we have fun lives… just as they do…outside of Sun Country.
So… after chatting with some of our amazing Sun Country staff members, here are some fun facts about them that PROVE that they’re “real people” too!
Miss Kristy (Afterschool): Is a former National High Kick Champion!
Miss Michelle (Bookkeeper/Funfest Apprentices): Used to be a DJ!
Mr. Mikey (Rockwall/FunFest Summer Camps): Was once on the front page of the Gainesville Sun…TWICE!
Miss Danielle (Dance Sun Country): Knows Miss Abby (Dance Moms)!
Miss Lexy (Sun Country SPLASH!): Modeled for 3 months!
Coach K. (Team Spirit Cheer and Dance): Color codes her closets. Yes, CLOSETS!
Coach Jim (Rainbow Gymnastics): Was once a contestant on MTV’s “Sandblast”!
Miss Debe (Gymstars/Sunbursts): Sang in an 80’s rock band!
Coach Kaytlynn (Rainbow Gymnastics): Toured Europe as a singer! No autographs, please. =)
So the next time you see one of the Sun Country staff out and about, don’t be surprised if they’re eating, laughing, shopping or doing anything else “normal people” do. But, if you see a gator in a swimming people, don’t ask it any questions. RUN!!! =)
